Lockdown strains annual sardine run tourism attraction
She said, “I would like to wish the diving industry, that would have been in full swing this time around, all the best for the future, as due to lockdown regulations all diving operations are still put on hold."
The sardine run not only attracts anglers and members of the public but, typically domestic and international tourists. In light of the annual attraction Sapphire Coast Tourism’s Romy Wenzel provided some insight.
She said, “I would like to wish the diving industry, that would have been in full swing this time around, all the best for the future, as due to lockdown regulations all diving operations are still put on hold. To experience the sardine run underwater is a totally different adventure, being able to admire not only the greatest shoal on Earth, but also all the marine and birding predators that follow the silver fish along the coastline.”

“Hopefully, divers be able to blow bubbles again soon with Scuba diving being one of the key attractions within the Sapphire Coast. So why not add a post-lockdown dive adventure, shark cage dive or snorkeling experience to your bucket list,” she added.
