Residents urged to follow lockdown protocol

Spokesperson of Lifesaving South Africa, Jace Govender said, “Along the South African coastline most people have remained compliant with the rules and regulations issued by the President."

There have been a few incidents in which the public has not adhered to the regulations put in place for the national lockdown. However, for the most part, Amanzimtoti residents seem to be compliant on beaches.

Spokesperson of Lifesaving South Africa, Jace Govender said, “Along the South African coastline most people have remained compliant with the rules and regulations issued by the President. We have had a few incidents, but other than that, we will remain to be on high alert to ensure that the public adheres to these measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Several residents were issued fines for being on beaches, swimming and jogging. This should send a stern warning to the public of the consequences to those who break the rules.”

“Residents of Amanzimtoti are doing an excellent job of informing the authorities when they spot people not following the rules. These whistleblowers also provide us with pictures so we know who to be on the lookout for. We thank them for their service. We are conducting hourly patrols to ensure that the public remains off the beaches,” he added.
