Talented artist adds colour to life

Navinesan was inspired to take up art professionally. At a young age, his father, Balan, who also loved art, encouraged him to pay more attention to his natural skill.

Vincent Willem van Gogh once said, “the only time I feel alive is when I’m painting.”
And this beautiful, renowned quote holds true for 44-year-old Navinesan Gangan who expresses his thoughts and emotions through the art form of painting.

Born and raised in Isipingo, the talented artist began painting almost 15 years ago.  Since then, his love and passion for the art form blossomed into an ideal career path for him. In addition to being an artist, Navinesan also dabbles in signwriting on walls, buildings, offices, small businesses and restaurants. This has recently become a growing trend. He is able to turn lifeless walls into bright and colourful murals.

Speaking to the SUN, the passionate individual commented on the techniques that he uses and said, “I use mostly paint with a fine brush. I enjoy using watercolours and often when signwriting I use a felt pen. Everything I do is done freehand. I would describe my art as captivating, and also colourful. My favourite aspect of painting is leaving people in awe. They are often amazed by my work and it is wonderful to know that my work is appreciated. I put my all in every painting or design.”

“I hope to inspire artists and to encourage them to never give up. I believe that artists see things from a different dimension. This enables us to create paintings and designs. The mediums I use for my work is acrylic paints on canvas, board or walls and felt pens on almost any medium. I love working in peace and quiet, with no disruptions. I would definitely say that my favourite place to paint is in the comfort of home,” he added.
