Death of John King

His memorial service will be held at Sweetwaters Church on Tuesday, 11 February at 2:30pm.

Long-time Toti resident and businessman, John King died on Saturday, 1 February at St Augustine’s hospital in Durban. He suffered a stroke on Christmas Day and unfortunately, while his mind and spirit were still strong, his body was too weak and frail and he died after five weeks in hospital.

John was a well-known and well-liked community member who ran a small packaging business in the area since 1992. He was easily spotted in his bright yellow VW Caddy while out on his delivery rounds and counted many of his clients as more than just customers, but dear friends too.

John was an avid church member and loved spending time connecting with his local church and prayer groups in the area. He was also a very active 73-year-old who completed six Comrades and a Washie marathon in his lifetime and his older years did not slow him down at all. He enjoyed doing the weekly parkrun and had completed 95 of them and was hoping to have done his 100th one in January. It was something he always encouraged anyone he met to try at least once because he guaranteed they’d ‘love it’ and be hooked for life.

He is survived by his siblings, Derek and Jenny, wife, Lesley, daughters Melissa, Charlotte and Kaitlin, and his two sons-in-law and grandchildren, Lara and John, who were both the apples of his eye. “My dad will be sorely missed by our family and friends, but we know that his suffering is over and he is at home with Jesus,” said Charlotte.

His memorial service will be held at Sweetwaters Church on Tuesday, 11 February at 2:30pm.
