Inspiration and motivation at art session

Christine also shared some of her tips and inspirational words for budding artists.

The community was invited to a free morning drawing session hosted by the Upper South Coast Art Association on Saturday, 18 January. Member, Irma Reinhardt, educated attendees on how to use shapes to achieve accuracy in drawing, while professional artist, Christine Andrew, conducted a demonstration of drawing a portrait in charcoal.

The passionate artist explained that it was her privilege to share with them the experience she gained while practising art over the years.

“Although I have found different seasons for different mediums, I am currently enjoying painting murals. However, I am also a portrait artist and spent many years doing them in public, so, my demonstration was a live sitting of one of the members done in charcoal. This is one of my favorite mediums,” she said.

Christine also shared some of her tips and inspirational words for budding artists.

“Firstly, and very important, is that no matter how terrible you think you are, you can improve, and no matter how good you think you are, you can also improve. Secondly, do not let your fear stop you from trying. We are all scared of failing, but if we don’t try new things we will never know if we might enjoy them. Breaking free from how we think things should be, and just enjoying them as they are can help us enjoy the creative process. Don’t forget to look at what you are drawing. Remember never compare yourself. Find out what works for you. Art is a wonderful world of expression, there is no way its supposed to be, but rather your version of it. I hope that people can be more free and enjoy the process instead of focusing on wanting to see the end results.”

“Lets be more encouraging and less critical. I am planning on putting together some painting workshops throughout the course of this year and hope that I can help and encourage people with their process,” she added.
