Titans prove to be strong swimmers in pool and open water events

Titans Swimming Club had 11 swimmers enter the Greendale Super Spar Capital K at Midmar Dam on Sunday, 1 December.

Titans Swimming Club had 11 swimmers enter the Greendale Super Spar Capital K at Midmar Dam on Sunday, 1 December.

All the participants swam the 1km event, with some of them being their first time ever to swim an open water event. Some good finishing times were clocked and the club used this event as a build-up to next year’s Midmar Mile in February. Coach, Marno Langeveldt and Nicholas Nel, 16, swam in the men’s 14 to 30 year category. Marno finished eighth overall in a time of 14:90 min with Nicolas just behind him in 10th overall in a time of 14:25 min in a field of 142 swimmers.

In the men’s 13 and under and 31 and over category, Matthew Maree, U13, finished the 1km swim in 16:55 min in 15th place and 18th overall in a field of 214 swimmers. Tristan Swart, 11, wasn’t far behind Matthew, and finished in 19:18 min with Demar van Tonder, 9, hot on Tristan’s heels in a time of 19:56 min. Tristan Janse van Rensburg, 11, and Shaun Butler, 12, were right behind them, clocking 20:39 min and 20:49 min respectively. Next to finish was MD van Tonder, 10, in a time of 21:19 min and Josh Worthman in 25:20 min.

Madison Thies, 12, swam in the women’s 13 and under and 31 and over category. She clocked a good time of 24:47 min, while Isabella Cromhout, 8, swam in the 500m fun swim and finished in 15:42 min.
