Amanzimtoti car guards rounded up

Car guards in Beach Road, Amanzimtoti were all picked up and taken to the police station to be profiled

In a joint operation led by Amanzimtoti SAPS and assisted by the CCPO, Blue Security and ET Rapid Response, car guards in Beach Road, Amanzimtoti were all picked up and taken to the police station to be profiled on Friday, 30 August.

“Their fingerprints were taken and although there were no outstanding cases involving any of them, basically most had previous convictions,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

The CCPO reported a business was broken into on Kingsway in Amanzimtoti earlier that morning. “The suspect smashed a rear window to gain entry. A TV was taken, but dropped at the side of the building after the suspect was disturbed by a person who sleeps on the premises.”

ET Rapid Response’s tactical response team was on high alert while they waited on the N2 after information was circulated of a grey Hyundai Tucson that was involved in a house robbery in the Scottsburgh area.

“It was long before the suspects came speeding past our officers, who immediately gave chase,” said ET Rapid Response South Coast managing member, Tony Lokker. A high speed chase ensude along the N2 and onto the M37. The suspects took the Moss Kolnick offramp, where they collided into another vehicle, but continued driving recklessly on Moss Kolnick.

They managed to evade capture by speeding over speed humps and jumping pavements to get past traffic and the vehicle was lost on the M37. A short while later, information was received via the CCPO network that a vehicle fitting the description was abandoned in the Felikize area. When ET, SAPS and CCPO members arrived at the site, one suspect fled into bushes and escaped, but the vehicle and housebreaking implements such as crowbars and bolt cutters were recovered.
