Winkle bowling green will close for maintenance

The greens will be closed for about six weeks.

Winkle Bowling Club’s AGM held on Saturday, 24 August, was well supported by members, with a full quorum.

The club welcomes new president Andre Gelderbloom, vice-president Norma Raath and treasurer Alan Baxter. Lynn Fitzsimmons remains club secretary, and Lou Bingham and Barrie De Wee are in charge of competitions. Committee members are Eddie Bingham, Wessies van der Westhuisen and Gert Richter.

On a sad note, members gave their thanks for the hard work and commitment to the club over the last two years to outgoing president, Brian Farmer and vice-president, Trish Farmer. The club wishes them both all the best in their new venture. Sylveigh Ananiadis chose to stand down as treasurer for the year ahead.

Members should note that plans are in process to close the green for maintenance in the first or second week of October. The greens will be closed for about six weeks. All club competitions need to be finalised by Friday, 27 September and games not played by this date will be scratched.

In the mixed nominated trips, Sylveigh and Basil Ananiadis defeated Eddie Bingham and Maureen Warrior. In the mixed nominated 2-4-2, Annalie Pienaar and Dries Snyman overcame Elaine Critchlow and Kokkie De Kock.

Winners of the men’s Eagle Spur 2-4-2 played on Thursday, 22 August, were Dave Kemp and Fred Rautenbach. The second session was won by Barry Hilton and Mike Kruger, while the 100 board was won by Les Gibbens.

The men’s 2-4-2 will be held on Thursday, 29 August at 8.30am for 9am. For further information about this game, call Barrie De Wee. The monthly mixed trips takes place on Sunday, 1 September at 8.30am for 9am; call Lou Bingham. There will be a braai after the game. The women’s Kwik Spar Winkle trips will be played on Thursday, 5 September at 8.30am for 9am; call Lou Bingham for more information.

Social bowls is on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1.30pm for 2pm. There will not be a meal on Friday, 30 August.
