Toti pupils ‘Go White for Sam’ at fundraiser
Children opened their piggy banks to donate their pocket money and others did chores around their homes.
Amanzimtoti Primary School showed its support for past pupil and cancer fighter, Sam Mzobe, by raising an incredible R24 000 at a ‘Go White for Sam’ day held at the school on Friday, 16 August.
On Thursday, 8 August, Sam had the opportunity to visit the school and chat to the learners about his story and create awareness of his disease. The school then sent out a letter to say it was going to hold a ‘Go White for Sam’ day and that for a donation of R10 the children can wear civvies, with as much white being worn as possible, and they will be given a bag of popcorn. They were also told that they were welcome to donate more than that to Sam’s fund.
The school tuck shop also took part in a fundraising initiative on the day. “The response by the children and parents was truly amazing and they went all out to donate in any which way they could. Children were opening their piggy banks and donating their pocket money and others did chores around their homes to raise more money,” said Dee French, who is helping with raising money for Sam’s medical expenses.
“Thanks to Amanzimtoti Primary School for their hard work in raising money for my medical management and treatment. The school has been a constant source of love and support and encouragement to me and my family, and this has given me the courage to keep going. I thank the entire Toti community for the love and support all have shown, both financially and emotionally to me. No words can ever equate exactly what this means to us,” said Sam.
