Suspects arrested with weapons used in attempted robbery

The suspects were found with a bag in their possession which contained the weapons.

Isipingo police foiled a robbery at a business premises in the CBD and arrested two suspects on Friday, 16 August.
A revolver, homemade firearm and knife that was used in the robbery attempt were seized.

After police received a report of the robbery taking place in Thomas Lane, they responded and when they arrived they discovered that the suspects had fled without taking any property when they heard the approaching sirens. In the follow-up investigation, they arrested two suspects fitting the description provided. The suspects were found with a bag in their possession which contained the weapons.

The suspects, aged 21 and 22, were charged with attempted armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as well as for possession of a dangerous weapon. Police patrols and visibility in the CBD has been stepped up to curb criminal activities.
