Flowers draw artists attention this weekend

The theme this month is flowers, and you will have ample scope to express yourselves.

The Upper South Coast Art Association (USCAA) holds its monthly meeting at Amanzimtoti library on Saturday, 17 August.

The meeting starts at 1pm and ends at about 4pm. Refreshments will be supplied for a small fee.

The afternoon meeting will be preceded by the morning drawing session which will start at 9am and end at about noon.

The drawing session will be presented by Bridget Clutten.

Bring the following:

Reference: A black and white photograph of birds or a bird, charcoal, white chalk, coloured paper for your final drawing (pastel paper preferably as it has enough tooth for the charcoal and chalk), kneadable eraser (putty rubber) and some rough scrap paper for the warming up work. Bridget is a talented artist and it will be wonderful to learn from her.

The demo this month will be given by Irma Reinhardt. Irma will be doing an interactive demo on Saturday afternoon and would like all artists and visitors to join in and make it exciting instead of just watching.

This is similar to what Nikhil Tricam did.

If visitors and artists would like to bring white and black acrylic ink or gel pens, Irma will bring prepared paper. Irma also studied drawing techniques and styles with Andrew Verster.

Her art background is basically four-and-a-half decades ago, during the early 70s.

After school she studied fine art and teaching, a four year course at the Durban Technical College.

Her interest in ink started after attending the workshop with Nikhil.

She is busy experimenting with mixed media and other drawing techniques.
