Man stabbed while trying to rescue robbery victim

Another couple was attacked on Friday night in the vicinity of the old skate board park at the circus site.

A man was stabbed in the head while trying to save a girl when a suspect attempted to rob her of her cellphone in Cato Crescent, Amanzimtoti on Tuesday morning, 11 June.

Residents in the area heard the commotion and contacted the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) who responded with backup from Blue Security and ET Rapid Response, and nabbed the suspect. He was handed over to Amanzimtoti SAPS and the victim was admitted to Kingsway Hospital.

Another couple, who wished to remain anonymous, was attacked on Friday night, 7 June in the vicinity of the old skate board park at the circus site. “They knew exactly what they were doing. They hang out at the taxi rank across from Memphis and we have seen the same guy numerous times en route home. Don’t think you are safe in Toti anymore. We walked home to avoid getting into a DUI,” said the couple, who thanked the people in the white 4×4 who turned around to assist and call the CCPO, who responded so quickly.

“The CCPO would like to expand the number of foot patrol guards on duty but without more people joining we are unable to. These foot patrol guards are the eyes and ears for the response vehicles and are a deterrent to the criminals,” said committee member, George Snodey.
