Reese’s winning drawing is out of this world

Reese’s drawing is now being submitted into the international contest where if she is chosen as one of the winners, she will get the opportunity to fly to Japan to visit the Toyota headquarters.

A young Amanzimtoti artist was awarded first place in her age category for her entry into the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest. Reese Govender, 7, a grade 2 pupil at Athlone Park Primary School was selected from 14 000 entries across the country as the national winner for her U8 age category.

At an awards ceremony, held at Toyota Sandton on 10 May, she was presented with a Sony PS4 gaming console and R8 000 cash. “I was really excited to win,” she said. “My school gave out entry forms and asked us to enter and there was a prize for the school with the most entries.”

Reese’s winning drawing showed an astronaut with an alien on the surface of the moon next to her interpretation of a Toyota car in the future, which in this case was a rocket ship, with the headline ‘The future is Toyota’. “I love space and I’m fascinated by it. I look up at the stars every night and that’s how I came up with the idea for my drawing.”

Reese’s drawing is now being submitted into the international contest where if she is chosen as one of the winners, she will get the opportunity to fly to Japan to visit the Toyota headquarters. “I’m really excited to see how I will do and I think I’ve got a good chance of winning. I love art at school and I’ve always been creative. I thank Athlone Park Primary School for submitting my drawing.”

And what does she plan to do with her winnings: “I like gaming, so I will keep the PS4 for my sister and I to play and if I see something nice I want, I will buy it, but I want to donate some to Toti SPCA.”
