Youth vandalise Warner Beach school on voting day

Police officers also found liquor in their taxi.

Principal of Warner Beach Preparatory School, Kevin Maiden was dismayed to find his junior campus vandalised by EFF supporters during Wednesday’s voting session.

Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge confirmed that between eight and 10 youth, wearing EFF T-shirts, arrived at the school in a taxi during the morning. “They grew increasingly rowdy which necessitated a report to the police. SAPS officers who responded at about 4.25pm found and disposed of liquor found in their taxi.”

“It is suspected that in retaliation the youngsters broke a school bench they were parked next to and scattered a bag of litter in the parking area.

“Our school is usually a very easy and quick venue to vote at, but this year there was a lot of tension in the air,” said Maiden.

Beetge also reported EFF supporters barricading the R102 in Umgababa, R603 at Adams mission and KwaMahkutha from early morning until about 11am. “I had to find my way through a barricade of burning tyres and smoldering mattresses, which I believe had a negative impact on people turning out to cast their vote.”
