Concerned resident appeals for council’s intervention

There is no pavement for residents to walk on, the kerbside is uneven and vegetation encroaches onto the roadway.

A Jabulani resident is concerned about the danger he and other elderly residents face when walking along Sutton Lane. Roy Cass said there is no pavement for residents to walk on, the kerbside is uneven and vegetation encroaches onto the roadway.

“Many of us residents use Sutton Lane to walk down to the garage shop. For months a hedge was growing into the road before council trimmed it back. There is no way the adjacent properties should be this close to the road.
“We have lots of old people who walk down this busy little road and there is no room if a vehicle comes past,” said Roy.

Even with speed bumps placed on Sutton Lane, Roy said people still speed up the road and some disregard the rule that it is a one-way.

“The walkway from Sutton Lane to Gus Brown Road is also uneven for residents and schoolchildren to use, with broken stairs and vegetation growing between the steps posing another danger. An incorrect sized manhole cover at the top is also dangerous to passersby. Do we have to wait until someone is killed before the council does something about these problems?” questioned Roy.
