JUST IN: Amanzimtoti man (70) shot in face in Beach Road

The man managed to drive himself to a garage in the CBD to ask for help.

An elderly man survived a bullet to the head in an attempted hijacking this afternoon at Sweetwaters Flats in Beach Road.

According to Chris Botha, a paramedic at Kingsway High School, the 70-year-old man, who was en route to Link Road, was shot through the window of his vehicle. “The man managed to drive himself to the BP garage to ask for help. Netcare 911 ambulance was first on the scene,”  said Botha.

He said the man, who was shot in the face, was immediately placed on a ventilator. “The victim was sedated and taken to Umhlanga by helicopter.”

The SUN has not been able to obtain comment from the police, but this is a developing story and the SUN will keep you updated as the story unfolds.
