Countdown begins for 56th Highland Gathering

The 56th edition of the gathering takes place at Hutchison Park on Saturday, 27 April.

Sapphire Coast Tourism (SCT) looks forward to welcoming the thousands of visitors who will flock to Amanzimtoti this week with the Highland Gathering just a few days away.

SCT officials have barely had the chance to pat themselves on the back for a well-executed Easter holiday programme that took place at the weekend on local beaches, before turning their focus to the 56th edition of the gathering that takes place at Hutchison Park on Saturday, 27 April.

On Toti Main Beach DJ Fluffy entertained beachgoers with his brand of festive music and beach games, including burger eating competitions and the popular mobile ten pin lane being set up at the beach.

“We thank all participating businesses that assisted with prizes, vouchers and activations. This includes Lords and Legends, KFC, Valentino’s, Splash Waterworld, Spur Amanzimtoti, Gary’s Horses, Giselle’s Kitchen, Dolphin Bowl, Debonairs Amanzimtoti and Aliwal Shoal Scuba,” said SCT chairman, Romy Wenzel.

Holidaymakers were treated to a different kind of Easter egg hunt on Saturday, 20 April. Aliwal Shoal Scuba ensured fun for the whole family as 10 keyrings and a cyclinder were hidden in the sand. “There were loads, loads and loads of digging as each item found guaranteed a prize to be collected, all sponsored by Aliwal Shoal Scuba.

Clean Surf Project also joined the holiday fun with a challenging scavenger hunt on Saturday and fortunately, they did not get blown away by the wind. A massive 10.2kg of litter was collected and all holidaymakers, who participated and joined in the fun on Toti Main Beach, were thanked.”
