Repairs see Amanzimtoti library closed until further notice

Ward 97's Cllr Andre Beetge explained that the tedious process cannot be sped-up by disgruntled community members' comments.

THE repairs to the Amanzimtoti library are going to take between six months and a year, and members are urged to join one of the three other libraries in the area until the Amanzimtoti-based one reopens.

Ward 97’s Cllr Andre Beetge explained that the tedious process cannot be sped-up by disgruntled community members’ comments.

Check this out: Winds cause havoc at Amanzimtoti library

“I receive calls all the time from community members asking when the library will reopen, and explaining how inconvenient it is that its closed for repairs,” said Cllr Beetge.

The severity of the collapsed roof, which gave way after extremely strong winds on 3 February, requires great finances to have it repaired. The snapped beam and collapsing roof cannot merely be propped up and members enter the facility, as this would be a safety regulation infringement and an accident will inevitably occur.

Cllr Beetge recommended becoming a member of either Kingsburgh library in Warner Beach, the Athlone Park library or the newly opened one in Galleria. Until the municipality notifies the community of the repairs completed, and the official reopening of the Amanzimtoti library, it will be closed.
