Welfare honours and celebrates social workers

Social workers were honoured for the invaluable role they play in creating a positive transformation by supporting individuals and families.

To honour those who work hard and tirelessly in the Amanzimtoti community, Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare hosted an inspirational morning on Tuesday, 19 March to celebrate Social Workers Day.

“Social workers are trained as agents of change to bring about positive transformation by supporting individuals and families. This can be a very stressful task and self-care is essential to ensure that they can deliver a meaningful service to others,” said Kingsburgh Child Welfare chairman, Rev Andrew Manning.

Gail Schreiner, a social worker in private practice, led a meaningful session on how to recognise and manage stress, burnout and compassion fatigue in the context of constantly caring for others.

“It was a great opportunity for the social workers in our community to be shown appreciation and support. We want to thank each and every one who helps to make a difference in the lives of the people they serve, and wish them a wonderful Social Workers Month.”
