City urges residents to use water sparingly

Following the power outages that are being experienced all over the country, the city is beginning find it an uphill battle to supply water normally to all its residents.

With scores of travellers expected in the eThekwini Municipality this long weekend, the city urges the public to use water sparingly.

In order to pump water to its reservoirs that subsequently feeds residents, the city requires an inexhaustible supply of power. Following the power outages that are being experienced all over the country, the city is beginning find it an uphill battle to supply water normally to all its residents.

There are already certain areas that have since experienced water shortages. To all affected areas the city is now delivering water with its water tankers and many more have been put on standby to supply the scarce resource when the need arises.

“I would like to assure the public that we shall do everything in our power in the event of major water interruption to deliver water with our water tankers in the event of an interruption of water supply. We are very concerned because already some of our residents are bearing the brunt of this situation which is beyond our control. But we can mitigate the negative impact of power outages when our residents heed our call to conserve water.

“There are instances where we could have burst water pipes caused by inconsistent supply of electricity, we therefore request the public to report them immediately,” said city manager, Sipho Nzuza.
