Trainathon duo flex their muscles to raise R10,000 for animal welfare

Cameron exceeded expectations in his sponsored challenge and managed 2,000 kicks in an hour, while Byron completed an astounding 320 pull-ups in an hour.

THE 12-hour trainathon that B-Fit Gym and Allegiance Fight and Fitness Academy (AFFA) hosted on Saturday, 2 March to raise funds and collect food for the Amanzimtoti SPCA and Powerbreed Rescue, was deemed a massive success.

Organisers are keen to make the trainathon a recurring event.

Saturday saw some 100 people flock to the gyms at 3 Saunders Road, Winklespruit and with their contribution of either pet food or a cash donation which will buoy the two local animal rescues for some time to come.

AFFA’s Cameron Meintjes and B-Fit Gym’s Byron Shrimpton extended their thanks to Illovo Pets Arbour Crossing, Livello Decking, Keys On Davenport and MackDyer Air for coming on board as sponsors.

“We raised about R10,000 in donations of cash and pet food that will be shared between Powerbreed Rescue and Toti SPCA,” explained Cameron. Cameron, who offers training in functional fitness, self defense and mixed martial arts (MMA) exceeded expectations in his sponsored challenge and managed 2,000 kicks in an hour, while Byron, who offers all-round functional training, completed an astounding 320 pull-ups in an hour.

The duo thanked everyone who made their way to the fundraising event, donated and joined in the challenges.

Brendon McMillan, Byron Shrimpton, Michelle Hannan, John Maritz and Cameron Meintjes show off the mass of food collected at Saturday’s 12-hour trainathon, while cudding up to some Amanzimtoti SPCA puppies and kittens in need of a loving home.
