Twelve-hour trainathon to fund Amanzimtoti dog welfare bodies

"There will be sponsored challenges done, classes given, braai grids and food available and a few other surprises, so join in on Saturday, 2 March,"_Cameron Meintjes.

FITNESS for animal rescues will be the name of the game on Saturday, 2 March as Allegiance Fight and Fitness Academy (AFFA) and B-Fit Gym hold a community 12-hour ‘trainathon’ fundraiser for the Amanzimtoti SPCA and Powerbreed Rescue.

The community is urged to make their way to the gyms situated at 3 Saunders Road, Winklespruit (opposite Sweetwaters Church) from 8am until 8pm.

This fundraiser follows on the AFFA and B-Fit’s raffle which fundraised for Toti SPCA to mark their gym openings last year. To celebrate one year since opening and to aid both the SPCA, which collects a tide of unwanted and abandoned pets daily, and Powerbreed Rescue, which rescues and rehomes many pitbull-type dogs, the duo have organised a fitness-fundraiser.

“We’re having a trainathon in support of the organisations. AFFA will raise for Toti SPCA and B-Fit for Powerbreed Rescue. They both have a constant influx of dogs and cats, especially from over the festive season, and are taking strain because of it. We’re trying to lighten that load,” said AFFA’s Cameron Meintjies.

“There will be sponsored challenges done, classes given, braai grids and food available and a few other surprises, so join in on Saturday, 2 March.”

Cameron urged everyone to take along a donation of money or food stuff such as pets mince, chicken skins, chicken hearts, chicken livers, chicken gizzards, rice, peas, pearl barley, sweet potato, butternut, mutton or beef flavoured stock cubes, a bag of dog or cat food.

Elaborating on some of the challenges, Cameron explained that he will be looking for sponsors for challenges such as 1,000 kicks in an hour, which he hopes a company will sponsor (for example, R2 a kick). Further surprise challenges will be selected randomly on the day. Classes will be given, as well as a two-hour self defense seminar.
