Residents encouraged to submit input on proposed development plan

The public is urged to provide input into the proposed plan, which is available on the website www.durban.gov.za.

eThekwini Municipality calls on communities to provide their input on the proposed Isipingo Urban Development Framework Plan before it is finalised.

The city’s Development Planning and Management Unit recently unveiled the plan that aims to advance and improve the Isipingo area to residents and community leaders. It will result in the upgrade of the urban infrastructure, facilities and public realm, organise and manage the social, economic and transport functions of the Central Business District (CBD) in a combined, co-ordinated and comprehensive manner.

This is in response to the increasing crime rate, illegal economic activities, traffic congestion, inadequate and unmaintained infrastructure and public spaces in the area.

Head of Development Planning, Management and Environment Unit, Musa Mbhele said the CBD has been neglected for a long time which has resulted in the infrastructure deteriorating in value and breaking down. “Our vision is to regenerate Isipingo CBD to perform as an integrated economic and transport hub and turn it to a functional, safe and attractive regional service centre for the southern metro area and this plan will help guide the city in achieving that vision,” he said.
