Toti’s new cricket star shines

Jandrè only faced 65 balls but smashed 14 sixes and 10 fours.

Amanzimtoti is producing yet another superstar cricketer in Jandrè Fourie. The Glenwood Preparatory School grade 7 pupil scored a whopping 152 runs not out in a 20-over match when his team faced Amanzimtoti Primary on Thursday, 14 February.

“I felt fantastic, as it was a very great achievement for me,” said the 13-year-old after being asked what his reaction was after his mammoth knock. “I did not feel it was going to be a special day. As usual I prayed before I went out to bat and asked God to go with me and guide me as to what He wants me to do.”

Jandrè only faced 65 balls but smashed 14 sixes and 10 fours to help his team to an incredible 212 runs. “The bowling wasn’t bad and I suppose it was just my day. I’m just glad I could help my team to win.”

This was Jandrè’s highest score in a T20 match and he will remember the memory for a long time but he has previously scored 100 not out and 87. “I prefer playing in 50-over matches but I like all formats. I do receive other specialised coaching with a private cricket coach, Zain Bux and I have a fitness coach Zororai Mahachi.

I have always enjoyed playing cricket and started playing around at home at the age of four. At the age of eight I joined the U10s to play hard ball cricket while I was at Kuswag Skool and the eight-year-olds were playing mini cricket.”

Jandrè is also an off-spin bowler, and plays hockey and action cricket, where he will represent the KZN A side for the fourth consecutive year. “I also used to swim but that interfered with my cricket times, so I had to choose and cricket won. I love cricket and one day I hope to make the SA team.”
