New chairman aims to make club family-focussed

My vision is to grow the club on the principles and foundations laid by the previous chairman.

Amanzimtoti Athletics Club heads into the new year with a new chairman at its helm. Charles Botha (62) has been a member of the club since 2005. Last year he was the club’s vice-chairman.

Charles was born in Pretoria in 1956 and has lived in Toti for 15 years. He matriculated at Afrikaanse Seuns Hoerskool and has been a runner for 28 years.

“My vision is to grow the club on the principles and foundations laid by the previous chairman and to make Toti AC the best in Durban. We want to make Toti AC a family club for all to enjoy,” he said.

Charles is married to Lynette, who is the club’s PRO, and they have one daughter Casandra, who is 12-years-old.

“I’m not a member of any other clubs and running is my passion. In 1998 I was awarded my permanent numbers in the Two Oceans Marathon, Comrades Marathon and City to City Marathon after completing 10 consecutive races. I have done 11 Comrades Marathons and 24 Two Oceans Marathons in my running years and can hopefully add number 25 to my name this year. In my downtime, I enjoy spending time with my family.”
