Pink Goddess high tea for breast cancer awareness

A select few friends were invited.

THE annual Pink Goddess high tea for breast cancer and cancer awareness took place on Sunday, 28 October.

This was the fifth consecutive high tea dedicated to the memory of organiser Rennie Naidoo’s late gran, who battled breast cancer and her dad who she lost to an aggressive brain tumour.

A select few friends were invited. The idea was to provide an ambience for guests to socialise, relax, energise and simply enjoy ‘me time’ while celebrating their inner goddess.

The afternoon was started with lighting a pink candle in remembrance of Rennie’s gran and dad, as well as all those who have gone before, the survivors, care-givers and prayers for those still battling this disease.

The women were given pink hearts to write personal messages to loved ones they had lost or to those still battling the disease. This was hung on a tree of remembrance.

Guest speaker, Sister Sue Van Rijsbergen spoke on palliative care and her work with people from the surrounding areas of Amanzimtoti. Pamphlets on self-examinations of the breast were distributed. The importance of early detection prolongs life.

The attendees were treated to a decadent high tea and thereafter adjourned to the garden to drape a tree in pink. Gifts sponsored by Estee Lauder South Africa and Loccitane South Africa were handed out to the very excited women.

It was an afternoon of incredible fun and splendour, with the event drawing to a close with pledges. The women opened their hearts and purses and gave unconditionally to raise R10,450 in just two hours. It was agreed that the amount be split and donated to five different charities. The clothing taken along by the women will be given to the Khanya Hospice charity shop.

From the responses and feedback received, Rennie is assured that this event is going to be bigger and better with each passing year. She prays and dreams that a cure for cancer is found and that future generations can live in a cancer-free world.

Rennie also hopes to inspire more people to open up their homes for a greater good.
