Private school donates R10,000 to Bobbi Bear

The programme's fundraisers took place throughout the year and a total of R65,000 was raised, which was shared between a handful of charities operating throughout Durban.

BALLITO’S Ashton International College raised and donated R10,000 to Operation Bobbi Bear through its Debutantes and Squires programme.

The programme’s fundraisers took place throughout the year and a total of R65,000 was raised, which was shared between a handful of charities operating throughout Durban.

Earlier this year, excited pupils in forms two and three (15-year-olds) and a few brave matrics, registered for the 2018 Debutantes and Squires Programme under the guidance of Ashton’s Deneil Habig.

The fundraisers culminated in the masked ball themed awards which was held at the picturesque Collisheen Estate Weddings and Functions venue on Friday, 14 September.

At the function, these young Ashton ambassadors were recognised for their achievement in raising a whopping R65,000 for charities identified by the Debutantes and Squires. Proud family members, friends, management and staff of Ashton International celebrated this great achievement and the announcement of the winning debutantes and squires.

“Over the past six years, the programme has raised just under R5,000,000 for charity. We were also very honoured that the representatives from the various nominated charities joined us at this occasion,” added Habig.

Recipients of the programme were St Lukes’ Home of Healing (R5 000); North Coast Courier Orphan Fund (R10,000), CANSA (R10,000), Autism Awareness (R10,000) and Bobbi Bear (R10,000).

The school has learnt about Bobbi Bear’s recent intake of six children between the ages of two and 10-years-old, who are still under the organisation’s care. This donation was made in the hope that the load placed on the Amanzimtoti-based human rights organisation may be lightened.
