Elderly couple survive Amanzimtoti home invasion

In the one incident, the suspect fired a shot in the lounge before fleeing.

Two house robberies occurred in Amanzimtoti last week where the intruders were armed with firearms and shots were fired. Fortunately no one was injured.

On Monday morning, 10 September, a thug smashed a big lounge window while an elderly couple were sitting in the lounge. “When he smashed the window, the couple was forced to flee to the bedroom and lock themselves in while he helped himself to their two laptops and a cellphone,” said Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member, George Snodey.

He fired a shot in the lounge before fleeing. The CCPO, ET Rapid Response, Blue Security, Toti detectives and Metro Police K9 unit all searched for the suspect for about two hours to no avail.

In a separate incident on Friday, 7 September shots were fired at a Kershaw Avenue homeowner in Doonside.

“We also had another incident in Athlone Park where the CCPO, Blue Security and Metro Police K9 unit arrested two suspects for the theft of a ladder in Hudd Road on Saturday morning, 8 September,” said Snodey.
