Support young Amanzimtoti cancer survivor’s fight

If we manage to raise more than we need, the remaining funds will be donated to assist other children battling cancer.

A young Amanzimtoti cancer survivor needs the public’s help to continue his brave fight against the dreaded disease.

Chris Botes (11), a grade 5 pupil at Kuswag Skool, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in March. “It was cancerous and it disappeared after he went through four chemotherapy sessions,” said his aunt Sandy van Niekerk. “However to ensure it doesn’t return, he needs expensive stem cell treatment.”

To help his parents to be able to afford the six-week treatment in Cape Town once a match has been found, Robbie Willemse, whose son is friends with Chris, has taken it upon himself to fundraise for the little boy. A concert with renowned Afrikaans singer and actor, Bobby van Jaarsveld that took place at Kuswag School at the end of September was a huge success.

Chris is now concentrating on a second fundraiser, which forms part of the Amashova Durban Classic cycle race on 27 October. “We need more local riders to come on board,” said Robbie. “You don’t need to do the ultra distances, just the 35km family day. We then need the public to sponsor the riders.” To participate or sponsor a rider at Amashova, or to assist with fundraising, call Robbie.
