THE Amanzimtoti SPCA is the beneficiary of Fry Family Food’s biggest meat-free braai and green market event which takes place on Sunday, 16 September at La Lucia Mall Park from 10am until 3pm.

The Fry’s Love your Heart Braai Day event fits the month, as September is both international heart health awareness month and national Heritage Month.

“To celebrate and bring awareness around how a plant-based diet is good for your heart, better for the planet and for animals around the world, the Fry Family Food Co is hosting the biggest meat-free braai and green market, while raising funds for animal rescue centre, SPCA Amanzimtoti,” said the meat-free food company’s Francesca Annenberg.

She further explained why meat-free lifestyles are a necessary growing trend.

“South Africans have among the highest rates of heart disease. Reducing meat and eating more veggies can positively affect heart health, lowers cholesterol and risk of heart disease.

A plant-based diet contains virtually no cholesterol, a main predictor and cause of heart disease; is lower in saturated fat, which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke; and contains a rich amount of heart-protective nutrients and antioxidants,” she said.

Those who are keen on joining the Heritage Day event are sure to be inspired.

“The day will offer delicious meat-free burgers and a fun and interactive green market, featuring local food, drink and lifestyle vendors and live music. The braai day is child-friendly too. The BMW Supertech Group will show off its latest range of electric cars at the event,” she said.

The fund and awareness-raising event runs from 10am until 3pm at the park, which is sited at 90 William Campbell Drive. Entrance is R20 and available through Quicket (all proceeds go to SPCA Amanzimtoti). Present your entrance ticket to claim your free meat-free burger.
