CCPO nabs wanted housebreakers

The stolen property was found in the car when the men were caught.

Three housebreakers, who were responsible for terrorising Amanzimtoti residents recently, were arrested on Saturday, 4 August by the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO).

CCPO committee member, George Snodey said the three men have been harassing Toti residents for a while, derailing gates, kicking in doors and loading as much stolen property in their car as they could.

“A resident in Poplar Road, Doonside noticed a car stop at his neighbour’s gate. They then reversed and kicked the front door in and started loading up. Being an old CCPO member, he did the right thing and called the emergency number,” said Snodey.

When everyone from the CCPO, Blue Security, ET Rapid Response and SAPS rushed to the crime scene, they had just left. The Metro Police K9 unit heard what was going on via the CCPO radio and stopped their vehicle on the N2 near Prospecton.

“All the stolen property was still in the vehicle when they were pulled over. The three men were arrested and taken to Toti SAPS where a number of officers were waiting to interview them.

“This is a significant arrest, as these guys who come with vehicles are able take a lot more stolen property than guys on foot.”

A resident in Poplar Road noticed this car stop at his neighbour’s gate.
