Compliance team’s Mandela Day treats for Isipingo creche turns into work party
The creche's children received meals and treats and the following day, after they had identified where work needed to be done, the team returned to mend and replace what they could.
MANDELA Day, Wednesday 18 July saw eThekwini Municipality’s compliance enforcement team bring joy to the faces of those in a creche at the Dakota Informal Settlement.
The creche’s children received meals and treats and the following day, after they had identified where work needed to be done, the team returned to mend and replace what they could.
“On Mandela Day these men, who are used to fining law breakers, gave back to the ‘have-nots’,” explained Peter Roberts. After an initial inspection of the creche, the team returned to repair doors, toilets, roof and aligned the sewer pipe, among other things.”
The team was welcomed with a heartwarming song by the children, which made their hard work and money spent so worthwhile.

Roberts and his team challenge other teams of the Isipingo Regeneration Project to do something similar, not only in the spirit of Mandela Day, but that of good camaraderie.
