New procedure to apply for police clearance certificates
To obtain a PCC the applicant is expected to provide a full set of fingerprints for the form.
The police advise the public of a new procedure which is being applied to the issuing of police clearance certificates (PCC). The changes have come about to combat identity fraud.
A PCC is a document issued by the SAPS criminal record and crime scene management which provides confirmation of a person’s criminal status.
“Members of the public are no longer expected to deliver their documentation to the Criminal Record Centre (CRC) in Pretoria as was previously the case. It is now the sole responsibility of SAPS to compile and deliver the form to the CRC on behalf of the applicant,” said Amanzimtoti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.
The service costs R114 per application. The required tariff is payable in cash at your nearest police station, by bank-guaranteed cheque, banker’s draft or electronic payment in the SAPS account in favour of the National Commissioner. In the case of an electronic payment, use as your reference the letters PCC, followed by the initials and surname of the applicant. Proof of payment must be attached to the application, which will be provided to the applicant at their nearest police station.
To obtain a PCC the applicant is expected to provide a full set of fingerprints for the form. Have a copy of your SA identity document or passport, of which a copy will be certified at the police station and attached to the application. You must provide a statement regarding your previous convictions and indemnify the SAPS against any liability which may result from furnishing this information.

Finalised PCCs will be returned to the station of origin and the applicant will be contacted for collection. On collection, the applicant must again present their identity document or passport as confirmation of identity.
