Two die as truck slams into Umkomaas stormwater drain

Paramedics found several people scattered around the scene.

Two men were killed and three others injured yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 19 June) when the truck they were travelling on crashed into a stormwater drain off the P197 in Umkomaas.

According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, their paramedics as well as others responded to find a large truck wedged into a stormwater drain. A load of brick that had been on the back of the truck was spread across the vicinity.

On closer inspection, paramedics found several people scattered around the scene.

Paramedics found two men had sustained multiple injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead.

Three other men were injured, one of whom was critical. The other two sustained moderate injuries. Paramedics provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions and treated the injured, before taking them to hospital.

The cause of the crash is unclear and will be investigated by police.
