CAUTION: Heavy weather warning issued for KZN

Municipalities have been instructed to be on standby with emergency shelters should the need arise.

KwaZulu-Natal’s disaster management teams have been placed on high alert across the province with heavy rains expected to hit eastern parts of KZN today (Wednesday, 16 May) and tomorrow.

KZN MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube said: “The heavy rains, which can cause localised flooding, pose a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians. We therefore urge our disaster management teams to pay close attention to routes which and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution,” said Dube-Ncube.

Municipalities have been instructed to be on standby with emergency shelters should the need arise. KZN suffered serious damage in October 2017 as a result of deluge which swept away houses and claimed several lives.
