New Amanzimtoti Table president takes top chair

The organisation appeals to other men who want to make a change to the world around them, to join Toti Round Table.

AMANZIMTOTI 85 Round Table has elected a new chairman, Robby Ducasse and is sure he will lead the organisation in the direction to continue on its good work in not only this community but neighbouring ones too.

The organisation appeals to other men who want to make a change to the world around them, to join Toti Round Table.

Robby was elected to be 2018’s chairman of the Round Table at the beginning of the year at the induction dinner.

“I have been involved in this organisation, working my way through the ranks for three years and now have taken the chair,” he said.

“This organisation has been an amazing part of my life. I love being with my fellow Tablers, doing something crazy and wonderful to benefit a worthy cause. During my time with this organisation, I have the privilege of being able to help so many in both great and small ways.”

Born in Pietermaritzburg, Robby was raised and attended school in Howick.

“I moved to Toti four years ago, to manage a hardware store in Umlazi. I am currently the general manager of Mega Build It in Philani Valley.”

The newly-elected chairman described himself as an outgoing person who loves going to gym and keeping active by playing golf, cricket and the odd game of squash. He is happily married to beautiful Denise, and they have one child, with a second on the way.

Robby explained how the simple act of gifting a food hamper, an unwanted belonging or carrying someone incapable of walking into the sea for a swim, through the interventions of Round Table, has filled his heart with indescribable joy.

“It’s impossible to explain, you simply have to feel it for yourself,” he said.
When uprooting from Pietermartizburg, Robby admitted that both he and Denise felt ‘out’ and missed the home they left behind. “This was until we jumped into the world of Round Table,” he admitted. “When joining, I was welcomed by the fellow members. Everyone got along so well, it was hard not to fit in and feel a part of a group consisting of such down to earth, genuine people.”

Since Robby has been part of the Table, he has run the Tablers’ stall at the annual Highland Gathering, renovated a school in Adams Mission and installed a water tank. He has been involved in feeding programmes with Operation Bobbi Bear and soup days at Jabulani Old Age Home. Out of the local community, Robby has also helped an Underberg-based home for those with cerebral palsy, Pevensey to bring their residents to the beach. With the help of East Coast Radio, he assisted in painting two schools. Over the festive season, he was selling Christmas trees to the community, whereby funds generated allowed for food parcels and further donations to become a reality to those in need.

“Partaking in a project allows you to sit back at the end of it and feel full of warmth, seeing the smile that you’ve put on a face,” he said.

He explained that being part of the group does have its challenges. Much time is spent working on these projects, which means time away from the family. “But if your family can be understanding, then you have nothing to worry about,” he said.

Robby explained that Toti Round Table is always keen to welcome new members between the ages of 18 and 40-years-old.

“Table is a wonderful organisation, we are always looking for up and coming members to join our team and help us serve our community,” he said. “We have two meetings a month, where new projects are planned and we also just have a little social time.

If there are any men who would like to join, contact me on 081-327-0212 or robby@megabuildit.co.za or visit our clubhouse, situated outside Lords and Legends.”
