Help rescue centre save injured vervet monkey

Residents are encouraged to help Umsizi with a donation.

Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member, George Snodey appeals to the community to help a monkey rescue centre with funding after he rescued an injured vervet monkey in the Ifafa area on Sunday, 22 April.

“We found this little okie trying to crawl off the highway. He had obviously been hit by a car and left to die. It looked like he may have had a broken back. He wasn’t aggressive at all.

Snodey contacted Tracy Rowles of Umsizi Umkomaas Vervet Rescue and dropped the injured monkey at her premises. The Umkomaas-based NPO rescues, rehabilitates and releases vervet monkeys. “It lay in her arms like a human baby,” said Snodey.

“If anyone can make any donation, no matter how big or small to Umsizi please do so. Tracy really struggles to care for them at her own cost. The little one we dropped off  will need X-rays and more costs. If you want to make a donation, you can call me on 083-655-4302 and I will pick it up and deliver it to her.”

Alternatively, call Tracy on 072-833-5119 or email tracymonkeylady@gmail.com.
