Residents urged to reduce water usage while pipe repairs continue

Residents are cautioned to use water in moderation as the reservoirs to these areas will run dry.

Winklespruit, Warner Beach and Illovo Glen residents are requested to minimise their water usage from today (Monday, 16 April) while the main water line to Almond Road reservoir remains under repair.

Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge said the San Luiz Road 300mm trunk main water line to the reservoir remains under repair due to unstable soil caused by continued rainy weather patterns.

“Bends have been manufactured and steel piping to replace PVC is on site,” he said. Limited flow from a 150mm line has been redirected to supply Panorama Park and Illovo Beach but residents are cautioned to use water in moderation as failing that, the reservoirs to these areas will run dry.

“The trunk main feeds the Almond Road reservoir that normally fills to four metres but is currently down to one metre, with repairs set to continue throughout the day and night,” said Cllr Beetge.

Areas that will run out of water from Monday afternoon are Winklespruit, Warner Beach and Illovo Glen. Five water tankers have been requested to roam the area from late afternoon.

“Residents are requested to minimise water usage in these areas with immediate effect to sustain availability from the Almond Road reservoir for as long as possible.”
