Isipingo mom pistol-whipped as day-old BMW hijacked

AN ISIPINGO Rail mom was pistol-whipped when her family car was hijacked on Friday night, 23 March in Samsunder Road.

After fleeing the scene, the criminals crashed the one-day-old BMW 1 series into a wall. It landed in a stream on Khan Road, a short distance from where it had been hijacked.

Residents are urged to be on high alert when entering their property, as hijackers are always on the look-out for soft targets.

“The Alpha Alarms response unit was dispatched on Friday night after messages were relayed via Whatsapp crime groups about the hijacking,” reported Alpha Alarms. “Reports allege the victims were followed by the suspects who forced open the main gate of the premises. After crashing the hijacked vehicle, they fled on foot towards Gopalsingh Road and were picked up by a getaway vehicle, which sped off in the direction of Inwabi Road headed into Umlazi. Whatsapp messages indicate shots were fired on Samsunder Road.”

Alpha Alarms urges residents to be alert when entering and exiting their property.

• Ensure the area is well lit at night.
• Call your security service provider and make arrangements for them to stand down if you feel unsafe when entering your premises.
• Trim all bushes and trees around your property.
• Inform a family member or neighbour to keep an eye out for your arrival.
• Do not linger in driveways while chatting on cellphones or casually chatting with friends.
• Take note of suspicious persons and unknown vehicles doing the rounds in your area.
