Robbery suspects nabbed with AK47 in Umkomaas

A police jacket, army jacket, a pair of gloves and two 9mm magazines were also seized.

Two firearms, including an AK47, were recovered and two suspects arrested by Umkomaas police on Monday night, 5 March.

It is alleged on Sunday, 4 March at about 7pm, a 55-year-old man was walking to his home in the Toyana area, Umkomaas, when he was approached by a known suspect. The suspect struck the victim on his head with a bottle and took his 9mm pistol.

Umkomaas SAPS officers, together with the Umzinto K9 unit, followed up on information with regards to the suspect involved in the robbery. Police went to the suspect’s house where a search was conducted.

The man was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and three rounds of ammunition. A further search revealed an AK47 rifle with 12 rounds of ammunition. A police jacket, army jacket, pair of gloves and two 9mm magazines were also seized.

Two suspects, a man and a woman aged 38 and 45, were arrested. They appeared in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court on charges of robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
