Four life terms handed down to mid-South Coast murderer

He was arrested on 22 November after a task team from SAPS Ugu Cluster Operational Command Centre worked tirelessly to apprehend him.

A gunman who terrorised the residents of Umkomaas, Scottburgh and Hibberdene has been sentenced to four life-terms and a total of 194 years in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday, 1 March.

Thulani Percival Kheswa (24) was convicted of 18 counts including four counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and 12 counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

He was sentenced to four life-terms for murder, 15 years for each count of robbery and seven years for each count of attempted murder.

He was arrested on 22 November after a task team from SAPS Ugu Cluster Operational Command Centre worked tirelessly to apprehend him. KZN acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended the team of detectives for investigating the crimes committed by Kheswa in Umkomaas, Scottburgh and Hibberdene.

“The detectives worked diligently for long hours, often through the night, to thoroughly investigate all the crimes committed by the accused. I welcome the sentences and I am sure these communities feel much safer now, knowing this ruthless criminal has been removed from the streets to spend the rest of his life in prison. The families of those who were robbed of their lives by Kheswa will now have a sense of closure,” he said.
