Toti office affected by welfare grant bungle

TOTI Family and Child Welfare is one of about 50 KZN charities that have been asked to return all or a portion of a donation it received from the Department of Social Welfare.

According to media reports, 14 child welfare organisations were asked to return R500,000 of R6.2 million that was a surprise donation to them last year.

It is believed about 20 other organisations that assist the disabled, elderly and poor now have to return some or all of the funds.

Toti Family and Welfare staff were reluctant to speak on the record, although they confirmed they were one of the affected charities and they had been asked to return a portion of the funds.
