THE Toti Premier League golf team hosted MECC at Amanzimtoti Golf Club, and found them themselves up against some of the top ranked players in KZN and indeed in the country.

It was a huge learning curve for Toti’s guys, and they did very well to hold the visitors to all square after the morning foursomes rounds.

The afternoon games proved no easy affair, with only Michael Igesund and Jason van Rensburg earning half points for draws, and MECC going on to win the day by a fine 9/3 margin. What is worth bragging about is that Toti’s boys were no walk-overs and that they took the opposition as far as they did, with only one game ending at worse than 5/3.

The B side travelled to Zimbithi to play their league match, only to be told the course was waterlogged, so breakfast was served and the guys travelled back home again. This match will have to be rescheduled, and the new date will be given once set.

On Saturday the women played their first trophy event of the year, the Basil Smuts 4BBB drawn partners, and it was the turn of the newer golfers to set the pace. Adri Slabbert and Francis Hoole took the win on 44 betterball points followed by Lass Davis and Delene Berry in second on 43. Liz Donald was nearest the pin on the fourth hole, and there were no two clubs.

The men had a great turnout of 70 players for their 4BBB bonus bogey competition on Saturday, and the team of Kendall Cormack and Mark Cowie were victorious on their +11, counting out Barry Buckland and Preston Khomo.

In third were Cecil Heydenrych and Errol Woods on +9, counting out Peter and Murray Dalton to fourth place.

The two nearest the pins went to Colin Scorer and Mathew Hamer on the seventh and 17th respectively. There were almost 20 two clubs, and the jackpot was not won so it carries over to next week.

Other results from AGC were that on Wednesday 32 players took part in the midweek meet, with Wil van Wyk taking the honours on 41 followed by Colin Scorer on 39, and Martin Rumbelow in third on 38. Friday’s nine hole sundowner attracted 25 players, and Hannes Botha ran away with the meat on 24 points for his nine holes, followed by Nico Vogel on 21 and Vic de Klerk on 20.

AGC invites golfers to play a round of golf on its beautiful course. Call the pro shop on 031-902-4144 to book a tee off time and hire a cart if so desired. The driving range is open every day for those wishing to hone their skills or try out this magical game.
