Keagan Murgatroyd, who captained the U21 team, joined Thomas Konig, Kegan Lloyd and Sian Pretorius as they set off Cape-bound on Saturday, 13 January, allowing themselves time to adapt to the different waters of the Cape before the contest.

In preparation for the champs they tested their skills on a secluded beach in the front of their accommodation. Slippery rocks saw members land themselves with stitches and other injuries, but nothing that prevented them from soldiering on.

“I didn’t think I was going to place where I did,” said Keagan. “I thought I’d make top 10, but never third.” The angler hopes to fish around the world in the future.

The local fishermen are hooked on fishing and will continue to participate in both this hobby and sport which brings them so much fulfillment and joy.
