ALERT: City of Durban decries fake jobs scam

eThekwini Municipality does not require job applicants to pay any money to qualify for employment.

eThekwini Municipality has decried the circulation of messages falsely advertising vacant positions in the Durban Solid Waste unit and Expanded Public Works Programme.

The message directs interested parties to transfer R200 through various supermarkets.

The municipality warns residents against falling for this fraudulent act. Deputy head of communications for Ethekwini Municipality, Mandla Nsele said municipal jobs are advertised in its newspaper Metro Ezasegagasini, and other reputable newspapers. He also stressed that applicants are not required to pay any money to qualify for a position within the city.

Residents who receive this message are urged to report the matter to their nearest police station. Alternatively report the matter to the municipality’s City Integrity and Investigations Unit on 0800-202020.
