All schools should adopt standardised uniforms

These uniforms can be made cheaply and sold at either cost to the government or with a tiny mark-up, making them affordable to most citizens.

EDITOR – I was listening to a discussion on radio about school uniforms and the high price parents face, especially when their child changes school.

In today’s tough economic times, why doesn’t South Africa’s public schools simply revert to one standardised school uniform for primary schools and high schools, and the different schools can then have their emblem sown on the pocket?

Matrics can wear long grey pants and white shirts like we did in our day, to differentiate them from others. Maybe even throw in a distinctive matric tie to make those seniors stand out from the crowd.

These uniforms can be made cheaply, or imported from China like most of South Africa’s goods and sold at either cost to the government or with a tiny mark-up, making them affordable to most citizens.

Our government should really look at ways to help its citizens save money. That way, we will have more spare cash to finance the next South African president’s homestead.
