Smash and grab Amanzimtoti burglar shot in head

The home owner saw the thief, who was armed with a knife, removing a TV and shot him in the head.

The robber believed to be responsible for a spate of crimes in which windows were smashed and goods grabbed from Amanzimtoti houses was shot in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 13 December.

According to Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member, George Snodey, the robber had smashed the window of a Pine Crescent home in Doonheights with a brick.

The home owner saw the thief, who was armed with a knife, removing a TV and shot him in the head. He dropped the TV and jumped out the window. The home owner called the CCPO and the man was apprehended. He is currently in hospital under police guard.

The home owner said they are happy to be CCPO clients, as it took under three minutes for CCPO and Blue Security members to respond. “The CCPO has been looking for this suspect because he has been active in the Doonheights area. He has just come out of prison after the CCPO apprehended him about two years ago,” said Snodey.
