Toti’s 11-year-old soccer fundi’s resumé grows

They were so impressed with Reece’s sports knowledge that they invited him to do the 5.30pm sports round-up.

Eleven-year-old soccer fanatic Reece Smith has landed a live sports pundit gig on Durban Youth Radio (DYR) every Friday evening at 5.30pm.

Reece’s father, Wesley introduced the young fanatic who suffers from arthrogryposis, to DJ Njinga of DYR because Reece had taken one of his dad’s poems ‘A Part Hate’ and wanted to rap it live on radio.

“Njinga ended up hosting Reece live on Friday, 13 October for the first time during his drive time show,” said Wesley.

“They also chatted about Reece’s upcoming book, and subsequent European tour to showcase his book and deliver a copy to every club in the book.”

They were so impressed with Reece’s sports knowledge that they invited him to do the 5.30pm sports round-up with sport’s anchor Samukelo Gambushe, who hails from Illovo.

“I think Reece is an amazing child. I was mind-blown with how much sports knowledge he has at the tender age of 11. He has a beautiful aura and positive energy around him, and I think he is destined for greatness,” said the sports anchor.

He has already made one correct prediction, where he guessed Harry Kane would be the man-of-the-match against Liverpool – this despite him being an avid Liverpool supporter.

“I aspire to be the first disabled-born football commentator ever, so I try to keep my predictions as realistic as possible,” he said. “In other words I bet with my head and not with my heart. Harry Kane has been in phenomenal form and I just knew he would target Liverpool’s weaknesses in defense this season.”
