Arrest as Amanzimtoti robber returns week after three-hour home invasion

They took TVs, car keys, her wedding rings and jewellery.

One of the armed robbers who allegedly held up an Amanzimtoti family for three hours last Wednesday, 17 October was arrested when he returned to the scene of the crime a week later.

The home owner, who did not want to be named, positively identified the arrested man when he was arrested on Wednesday, 25 October.

He and four accomplices jumped over the property’s wall last Wednesday at about 1am. The home owner went to investigate when she heard the dogs barking. She came face to face with three armed men, who hit her and pushed her back into her room.

They tied her son’s hands and feet together and assaulted him. As her daughter has an one-month-old baby, they only tied her feet together. They took TVs, car keys, her wedding rings and jewellery. They demanded money and the whereabouts of the safe while assaulting her again.

They eventually left in her vehicle, which was later recovered in Inanda.

The home owner managed to cut herself free, and called the police before freeing her children.

“It was traumatic,” she said. “They discussed raping us and taking one of us with them. Fortunately they decided not to.

I want to warn residents in the vicinity of Isundu Drive and Fynn Road that they gain entry to your property by jumping over the fence and they come in quietly. If anyone is offered expensive, original jewellery, especially diamonds, call the police.”
