Death of Bernie Esterhuizen

Bernie's memorial service will be held at St Winifred's Methodist Church in Warner Beach at 2.30pm on Friday, 13 October.

THE life of Amanzimtoti High marketing officer, Bernie Esterhuizen will be celebrated this Friday, 13 October, following her sudden death of a suspected heart attack in Gauteng last week.

Bernie, who was described as ‘an unequalled gift from God’ by her loved ones, will be sadly missed by her mother Gwen, daughters Katelynne and Ashton, partner Ryan Scott, brothers Wayne and Cliff and her beloved grandson Lleyton as well as her extended family.

Colleagues at Amanzimtoti High mourned the loss of a great friend and colleague. “Bernie was much loved by all who had the privilege to meet and work with her,” read a statement from the school.

“Not often in life does one have the opportunity to know someone who, despite challenges thrown their way, always brought light and laughter to those around them. We will dearly miss the influence she had on our school and community; touching lives through the inspirational example she set as a cancer survivor and her amazing capacity to care for those in need. Walking past her office now reminds each and every staff member of the power that a smile can have, of how seeing life through her eyes can bring peace and energy to conquer any obstacle. Her death has left her family and friends heartbroken but with the knowledge that we had the chance to share our lives with someone very special.”
